Petition - Rough Draft - Comments and Suggestions Please

We the people of the United States of America and of the World must speak up against the deplorable conditions under which the United States Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (AKA, ICE) under the direction of the Department of Homeland Security (AKA, DHS) is keeping thousands of immigrant detainees. In the name of the most basic of human rights we ask that the United States government immediately see to it that these agencies:

1. Cease keeping non-criminal detainees in prisons under indefinite detention.

2. Cease keeping small children in prison when detained with their families. Provide appropriate facilities for the proper care of children when families must be detained.

3. Cease all deportation proceedings against immigrants here legally who have committed no crime.

4.Cease deportation of victims of human trafficking who have citizen children in this country.

5. End closed immigration courtrooms. Open immigration legal proceedings to the public.

6. Investigate petitions for asylum or withholding of removal on humanitarian grounds thoroughly and in good faith.

7. Respect the rights of under-age citizens of this country to be raised in this country by their parents when said parents have committed no crime.

8. Investigate all incidents of assault and battery committed against immigrants while in custody, whether by other inmates or government officials, and file criminal charges against the perpetrators.

9. Investigate all incidents of deaths due to withholding of proper medical care and file criminal charges against the perpetrators.

10. Investigate all incidents of deliberate perjury, withholding or destroying of pertinent documents or any other deliberate denial of justice in an immigrant’s case and file criminal charges against the perpetrators.

11. Investigate all cases of withholding of adequate food, water or other basic necessities to health and life from ICE detainees and file criminal charges against the perpetrators.

12. Cease detaining non-dangerous immigrants in prison until such time as ICE and DHS can provide access for such detainees to adequate physical conditions and timely justice.

We have laws in this country that will provide for the humane and fair treatment of immigration detainees while legislative reform is being considered if those laws are enforced. The laws of our country must apply to those who are charged with enforcing the law if we are to remain a free people. We, the undersigned, are not in agreement with any actions taken on the part of our government that are a violation of the most basic laws protecting human dignity and human rights. Said violation of such laws by government officials is a violation of the public trust and must not be tolerated.
