No Balls in the Air

Ever juggled? If you haven’t, you should try it, it’s fun – good exercise too, at least for me – bending over all those times to pick up dropped balls. Those who are good at juggling make it look so effortless, but when you take it up you learn within the first few seconds, the more balls you have in the air, the harder it is to keep them all going.

One of the problems we seem to have with our elected officials these days is they have chosen to solve that problem by not tossing any of their balls up in the air. They sit with balls clutched tight, ear to the ground to judge the tone and mood of the country so they will know which ball to toss which direction. Well, what on earth is the use of balls held tight and safe? Might as well be a ball-less individual if you’re going to do that, and from where I sit it looks like this country is awash in ball-less politicians who don’t have the courage to let anything fly.

Nazis and white supremacists are openly and blatantly taking over the Republican Party and for all that I can see, there’s no one in the party willing to show their balls and stand up to them. There is one thing you can say for Nazis and white supremacists – they’ve tossed all their balls in the air and have them in full play. Okay, each of them only has one raggedy, worn ball, but they are juggling it for all it’s worth. Men like John McCain, who spent a whole lot of time during the campaign showing us how big his balls are, seem to have entirely misplaced theirs. McCain's panting after the Nazis and white supremacists trying to play with theirs. Palin? Well she never had any to begin with so at least she’s consistent.

The Democrats, now there’s a crew that showed us a whole lot of balls during the campaign and promised us a good show. Where are their balls now? The anti-immigration crowd squeaks and they fall right in line tossing them some new balls to play with and pointing out to the rest of us, who are standing there open-mouthed and feeling betrayed, that they at least didn’t give the “no documents is worse than drug-dealing, rape and murder combined” crowd as many balls as they wanted.

When it comes down to our guys in D.C. I don’t see any balls in the air. Do you see any balls in the air? There haven’t been any balls in the air for a good long time! Last time I saw balls was when Clinton was president. I’m not saying I like the balls he was tossing around. His signing of the IIRAIRA, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (which I think the Democrats have successfully kept from being detected as their doing by giving it an impossibly long name) in 1996, is what made the immigration hell we are all now living in possible. I’m not claiming any love for Clinton’s balls, but at least he used them!

Part of being a leader is leading. You have to throw those balls in the air, get them in play, do something beyond tossing a few over to the opposing side and letting them play with them instead. The present scenario is just plain wrong. Innocent lives are being destroyed, immigrant’s and citizen’s, by the hundreds of thousands every year and no one is standing up, taking out their balls and using them! If those we elected persist in throwing balls over to the Nazis and white supremacists to appease them two things are going to happen – guaranteed: 1. They will not be appeased, they will be emboldened instead. 2. They will have more and better balls to play with ‘cause our side gave their balls away! It’s time for our leaders to stop helping the other side and start giving us the show they promised. Just sayin’ . . .
